Via Upscale Hype PoV: Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday Necklace Even though jewelry seems to have been downgraded in terms of relevance for rappers, During her rise to the top, Nicki Minaj has made quite a few A-list industry friends, so it wasn't a surprise when she lined some of them up as guest features on her debut, Pink Friday. The LP is dropping next Monday (November 22), and Minaj has built anticipation with her daily song-by-song Facebook countdown called Pink Friday Diaries, which gives fans a glimpse into each of the album cuts. In her latest entries, the Harajuku Barbie opens up about her highly anticipated collaborations with Rihanna and Drake. On Friday, Minaj dished about "Fly," her collaboration with Rihanna, calling it one of her "absolute faves." In the entry, she writes, "I wanted to work with Rihanna for a long time. I'm very proud of her accomplishments; especially since she was born on an island like me :). This song is a female empowerment song. But then again, it's not specific to just women. It speaks about flying, soaring high in the face of every single solitary adversity that comes your way. I speak about how the media has attempted to box me in and how that has made me feel suffocated." The Young Money MC explains that after years of misrepresentation, she decided to stand up and forge her own identity. "After years of being dragged thru the mud, I've mustered up the courage to re-define myself," she writes. "I believe that I represent an entire generation. My fans have become my family; and together we have become a movement. Get ready for it. We came to win." In another entry, Minaj describes her Drake-assisted "Moment 4 Life," which sounds like a song that both rappers can relate to. "[The song] is about 2 kids that grew up on the same block. They shared their dreams of making it as rappers," the lyricist writes. "They laughed together, they cried together. One day they realize that their dreams have come to fruition. Though they know all things come to an end, they celebrate. They wish that they could have this moment 4 LIFE. Oh yeah barbz, Moment 4 Life features Drake! I was really looking forward to our collaboration and it lived up to every one of my expectations." Poking fun at the pair's headline-making Twitter marriage, the Young Money honey ends her description, adding, "It feels like a marriage made in heaven ;)." Minaj recently spoke about "Blazin'," her collaboration with Kanye West, in an interview with DJ Drama. When asked about the record, Nicki revealed that the track tones down her signature animation and is aimed at her male fans, saying, "That record is a dope, dope, dope record where Kanye shows off as always. It's one of those for my dudes to ride to, not really crazy and animated, but just like one of them ride-outs when you feel good and you just got the top down and you just want to zone out." In addition to Rihanna and Drake, Nicki also teamed up with Eminem ("Roman's Revenge"), will.i.am ("Check It Out") and British songstress Natasha Bedingfield ("Last Chance") on Pink Friday. Which Pink Friday collabo are you most looking forward to? Nicki Minaj’s debut album Pink Friday hits shelves in just over one week, however snippets from the highly-anticipated LP have already reached the web. With songs like “Your Love," “Check It Out," “Right Thru Me” and “Roman’s Revenge" released on schedule, Nicki's camp has done quite a good job at keeping Pink Friday remaining tracks under wraps. So when 30-second snippets of the LP's tracklisting leaked on Wednesday (November 10), the response was voracious. “Hearing the snippets @NickiMinaj’s Pink Friday just made my day/week/month,” tweeted one fan @kaykay_ox. “Cannot f---ing wait til Pink Friday comes out! These snippets are f---ing unreal! There’s not one I don’t like,” added @MissKelliBaby. Despite the fact that Nicki's leaks are only teasers, the bits pull back the curtain on how the LP will sound. Boasting a combination of punchy bars over pop-driven production, coupled with spurts of singing and overall weirdness, it appears that Pink Friday sounds just like some Barbie fans hoped it would. “I have @NickiMinaj’s Pink Friday album snippets on my iPod to tide me over til [November] 22,” wrote @TravMatthews. “See you told me I would lose, but I won / I might cop a million Jimmy Choos just for fun / ‘Cause bitches couldn’t take what was in me, Australia, Sydney / Might run up in Disney, out in LA with Lindsay” rhymes Minaj on the album’s opening track, “I’m the Best." Some would argue that MTV News' #6 Hottest MC in the Game grabbed the female MC crown long before her album leaked, but according to the excerpts, Nicki sounds like she’s fully embracing the title. Still, not everyone enjoyed what they’ve heard so far. “Ok can we discuss Pink Friday? No fear Lil Kim Nicki's old sh- kills Nicki's own new sh- wth?" wrote @Juana4ev, referencing Lil Kim’s thinly veiled shots at the Queens native recently, in which Kim threatened to squash Barbie’s career with her catalog. “I’m not loving the snippets off of Pink Friday!” added @NYmaterialgirl. Elsewhere, others have already chosen their favorite songs. “Just heard the snippets of Pink Friday and all I can say is classic!! I’ma love the whole CD but the ones I’m feelin are 'Fly' and 'Moment 4 Life,' ” said @westindiankidd. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but it’s clear that the anticipation for Pink Friday is approaching a fever pitch. With less than two weeks to go before Pink Friday drops, Nicki Minaj teases her Barbz with 30-second snippets from her debut album. The Young Money raptress pulls in the heavy-hitters—Eminem, Rihanna, Drake, Kanye West, Natasha Bedingfield, and will.i.am—on the 13-track standard edition. Nicki says the album will please old and new fans and feature cameos from her various alter-egos. Nicki Minaj unveiled the cover for her highly anticipated debut album and it looks like the Young Money rapstress is missing a few limbs. As expected, Nicki's backdrop is dipped in bubblegum pink and her infamous pink wig, which she referenced in "Monster," takes center Pink Friday is the upcoming debut studio album by American rapper Nicki Minaj, set to be released on November 19, 2010 through Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records and Universal Motown. The album was preceded by the singles "Your Love" and "Right Thru Me" which were released in June and September 2010, respectively. In addition a previously released joint single between Nicki Minaj & will.i.am titled, "Check It Out" will appear on the album. Background After a major record label bidding war, Young Money Entertainment announced on August 31, 2009 that Minaj had signed a 360-deal with the label in which she retains and owns all of her 360 rights – including merchandising, sponsorships, endorsements, touring and publishing. Sessions for the album began in 2009 with a tentative release in the second quarter of 2010. Nicki Minaj stated in an MTV interview that "Married In The Club" was set to be the lead single from the album and was slated for a November 2009 release. Plans for the single were cancelled and Minaj explained in a February 2010 interview with MTV that she had scrapped the previous material and began recording again from scratch. Minaj explained, "I have songs that where I am now, they aren't a great representation of me to where I'm at musically. I wanna start from scratch but I do have my single and it'll be out." Minaj had also confirmed the lead single to be "Massive Attack", but Minaj stated via Ustream that the single will not be featured on the album and that the only song on her album that people have heard is "Your Love". In an interview with V103’s Greg Street, Minaj stated the great importance of the album to her and all females in hip-hop. She stated; “They won’t look to sign other female rappers because they’ll say, ‘Her buzz was so crazy and if she couldn’t do it, then no one can do it.’ And I don’t want that to happen, so I’m doing this as well for all the girls. I hope that with the success of the album—because I know it will be successful, I believe it will be successful—I hope that this opens doors for all of the girls everywhere. Even as far as I’ve come right now, it’s a testament in my mind,” she said. “So I hope the female rappers will understand how big it is, just for our culture, that the album does well.” Concept On August 3, 2010 Minaj revealed on a Ustream.tv channel for her fans that the albums name would be Pink Friday. She discussed her choice stating “To carry on a great tradition of Black Friday, we are going to switch it up this year in honor of the Nicki Minaj album and call that day Pink Friday, and call my album Pink Friday,!” A deluxe edition of the album has also been confirmed. Minaj discussed with MTV how the album cover for her debut will shape up and only revealed that it will be "very fetch." Minaj remained quiet on the details, but she did speak about what makes an eye-catching cover: "A good album cover is something that tells your own personal truth," said Minaj, citing The Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die cover as one of her favorites. "Something that's not just trying to catch someone's attention, but rather kind of feels like a part of your soul, a part of your creative expression." Nicki Minaj released the artwork for her album cover on Friday, October 15, 2010. Rap-Up commented on the album cover stating "The cover features Minaj as a doll alarmingly staring at the camera, sitting armless on the ground with her elongated legs in a flowing silver corset, pink stilettos, and a stark pink wig." Recording and production On July 8, 2010, hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz confirmed his collaboration with Minaj for the album. According to Beatz, he and Minaj had recorded at least three songs during their sessions. In an interview with Hot 93.7, Nicki Minaj confirmed that the song "Catch Me", produced by Beatz, will appear on the album and described the song as "moody" and "mellow futuristic". Minaj also confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that The Black Eyed Peas member and record producer will.i.am contributed production to the album. In the same interview, Minaj described the album as emotional. Minaj said, “The album is much more emotional than you anticipate, which is a great thing. And I know women are gonna connect to the album so much. I felt like for so many years I was the girl who did the catchy little raps, and it’s time for me now to tell my story, and in telling my story, I’m really telling every girl’s story. We all go through the same thing. So the album is gonna feel very personal to every female.” Producer Bangladesh also contributed to the album. Hip-hop rap artist and producer Kanye West is also confirmed for the album. In an interview with Interview Minaj stated that she would be toning down her sex appeal on the album, stating: “I made a conscious decision to try to tone down the sexiness,” she tells Interview magazine. “I want people—especially young girls—to know that in life, nothing is going to be based on sex appeal. You’ve got to have something else to go with that.” Minaj has also stated that she likes to work with unknown talent. Minaj and her team set up an e-mail account for aspiring producers to submit their demos to, and post announcements via twitter. It is unknown if submissions will make the final album. While discussing the progress of her debut album with MTV, Minaj discussed a song she described as a "standout" in the entire album. The song "Right Thru Me" is confirmed for the album with Minaj stating, "It's not gonna come right now. It'll come closer to when the album drops, but it's a really, really pretty song. Everyone's gonna like it. It's just really insightful but in a very conversational kind of way." In an interview with 95.8 Capital FM, Rihanna stated that after the two collaborated on "Raining Men" from her album Loud that the duo would be teaming up together for a possible second collaboration on Minaj's Pink Friday. A joint single between Nicki Minaj & will.i.am titled, "Check It Out" was released on September 3, 2010 via digital download. The song samples "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles. Minaj revealed on an unexpected Ustream on October 25, 2010 and discussed a song she recently recorded with fellow label-mate Drake that is expected to be on the album and is set to be a single and have a music video.Minaj revealed exclusively to Rap-Up that she has collaborated with rapper Eminem on a Swizz Beatz-produced track titled "Roman's Revenge" which references Minaj's alter-ego Roman Zolanski and will feature Eminem's alter-ego Slim Shady. Promotion On her Twitter Minaj stated that if she reached one-million followers she would dedicate a Ustream to her fans. On August 3, Minaj went on Ustream to call fans who emailed her their phone numbers and to reveal the album's title. On June 17, 2010, promotional photos for the album were leaked online, depicting Minaj in a neon-orange wig dressed as a ninja. It is unknown if the photoshoot will be included in the final album artwork. On July 8, 2010, Minaj announced via Twitter that the album will be released on November 23, 2010.. It was later announced that the album got pushed up by one day to November 22, 2010. Minaj's official website and related social networking pages later announced that the digital download version of the album would be availabe for pre-order through iTunes on October 30, less than a month before the release date of the physical edition. Pink Friday Tour Nicki Minaj announced via the social networking site Twitter that she would kick off a five-date Pink Friday Tour a month before the album drops. Tweeting, "Ok Barbz, here are the 1st 5 dates on my Pink Friday Tour," the tour began in Philadelphia on October 22, and ran through October 30 in Trinidad and Tobago. Further dates are yet to be announced. Singles "Massive Attack" was released on April 13, 2010 through digital distribution. It charted at number 75 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song was a distinct change in Minaj's previous work on mixtapes and features, thus receiving mixed to positive reviews from critics, commending lyrical content and distinctiveness, and critiquing that it did not fit her "Barbie" persona well. The song bubbled under the Billboard Hot 100 at 22, and peaked at 65 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. "Massive Attack" was initially announced as the album's lead single, however, after the single's poor chart performance, Minaj dethroned its lead single status and declared that it will not be on Pink Friday. "Your Love" was released as the album's next US single on June 1, 2010 and as the first single in the United Kingdom on July 2, 2010. Initially, the song had never been planned for release, but due to abounding airplay it was mastered and used as the follow-up to "Massive Attack". The song has so far peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at 5 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and topped the Rap Songs chart for eight consecutive weeks. Minaj became the first female artist to top the Rap Songs chart unaccompanied since 2002. It also charted in Canada and the UK. "Right Thru Me" was released September 24, 2010 and officially impacted urban radio on October 5, 2010. A music video directed by Diane Martel, was released for the single on October 27, 2010. is an American rapper and singer. In August 2009, Minaj signed to Young Money
Entertainment with distribution from Universal Motown, who will release her
untitled debut studio album in 2010, which will consist of the hit "Your Love".
Onika Maraj grew up in Queens, New York. She is of mixed Afro-Trinidadian and
Indo-Trinidadian descent. According to Minaj, she grew-up in a home with an
abusive father who drank alcohol, did drugs, and once tried to kill her mother
by setting the house on fire. She graduated from LaGuardia High School in
Manhattan where she studied singing and acting. Nicki Minaj began her career in
2004 singing background vocals and hooks for local rappers. She was discovered
on MySpace by Dirty Money CEO Fendi, who signed her to that label. After
appearing on "The Carter Edition" of Young Money's The Come Up DVD series, Minaj
was contacted by Lil Wayne. The two collaborated on a number of mixtape tracks.
In April 2007, she released her first mixtape, Playtime Is Over, posing as a
Barbie doll on the cover. Lil Wayne appeared on the track "Can't Stop, Won't
Stop." In 2008, Minaj released the mixtape Sucka Free. She appeared in the July
issue of XXL magazine, giving a brief overview of her life thus far. Later that
year, she won Female Artist of the Year at the Underground Music Awards. Nicki
Minaj released Beam Me Up Scotty, another mixtape, in 2009. It received
generally positive coverage on both BET and MTV. Minaj was also featured on
Jeffree Star's 2009 album Beauty Killer, on the track "Lollipop Luxury." This
Pendant is HUGE and HEAVY. The ultimate in Bling. As seen on NICKI MINAJ in her
video with Mariah Carey "Up out of my face". Perfect for any Barbie collector
that love bling. Perfect if your name is Barbie. Simply perfect if your a
"Barbie Girl". So however you wear it you will sparkle and shine and probably
turn heads. Bling it on!!!! Before Minaj released any solo material besides
mixtapes, she was featured on 18 album tracks and 11 remix's singles with
high-profile acts including "Up Out My Face (Remix)" with Mariah Carey, "My
Chick Bad" with Ludacris, and "Lil' Freak" with Usher. Minaj released her first
single "Massive Attack" on April 13, 2010. The song features Sean Garrett, who
produced the song along with Alex Da Kid. A music video for the single was shot
on March 16 in the desert near Lancaster, California with director Hype
Williams. The music video for the single premiered on BET's 106 & Park on
Wednesday, March 31 and features Sean Garrett, with a cameo appearance by Amber
Rose. The song is the lead-off single from Minaj's as-yet-untitled debut album
that is set for a summer 2010 release. Although the album was scheduled for
release as early as March 2010, Minaj does not see any reason to rush it,
stating she did not feel pressured to prematurely release the album. Minaj
released "Your Love" as the second single from her debut album, after the leaked
version started receiving heavy airplay on the radio after being released on the
Barbie World mixtape. The single went on to become Minaj's most successful
single so far, peaking at number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Rap
Songs chart. A music video for the single is set to be shot as confirmed by
Minaj. There's no denying the cult following Nicki Minaj has attained through
her mixtapes, shows, and infallible Young Money affiliation. While her swag is
mean, and her sex appeal is crazy... her style game could use a bit of work
(C'MON SON! You be wearing 2 bras)! Exposed bra’s, massive cleavage exposure,
paint splattered denim, and I swear she has every legging ever made! I don’t
recall seeing her in anything other than leggings since she took the above
picture (with the denim jeans on). But the straw that broke the camel’s back was
her BET Hip-Hop Awards 2009 look. The shiny pleather jacket, hole-y leggings
with a camel toe cameo, and some Louis Vuitton boots with the cone heel straight
off the Fall 2009 runway. The boots passed, but the rest of the look…#fail!
[Please keep in mind, I do love me some Nicki! K, Barbs?] I am a person of
solutions, so I decided to give her a much needed make over. I definitely don’t
want to take away her sexy, it’s apart of her image and she does have a really
nice body. The overall look I was going for with her was something feminine,
flirty, but still sexy While working on her solo debut album, Minaj featured on
additional high-profile acts including Christina Aguilera's "Woohoo" and Sean
Kingston's "Letting Go (Dutty Love)". In an interview with Vibe Minaj discussed
her sexual image stating "When I grew up I saw females doing certain things, and
I thought I had to do that exactly. The female rappers of my day spoke about sex

Carey, Usher, Robin Thicke, Sean Kingston, and Christina Aguilera, Kanye West
has called on hip-hop’s heroine for his new album. BET’s Executive Vice
President of Entertainment and Music Programming Stephen Hill was one of the
lucky few invited to hear Mr. West’s eagerly-anticipated new project. “He’s got
a track with Nicki Minaj that’s so dope,” he exclusively revealed to Rap-Up.com.
“You won’t believe it when you hear it.” The executive has heard four cuts from
the album, tentatively titled Good Ass Job. “He comes back unapologetic and his
performance [at the BET Awards] was stellar, absolutely stellar,” he said. Hill
described the direction as more reminiscent of the rapper’s first three albums.
“It’s less like 808s & Heartbreak and more like Graduation.” Kanye returned to
the spotlight at last weekend’s BET Awards, where he opened the show with
“Power” while wearing $300,000 in jewelry. Continuing to look past the
negativity, Nicki Minaj scores big after making Billboard charts as the first
single by a female emcee to top the Rap Songs category in over seven years.
Trust folks, it wasn’t “Massive Attack”. Under the radar until recently, her
second single “Your Love” claimed the Rap charts, a feat that was only
accomplished by Lil Kim’s “Magic Stick” featuring 50 Cent, along with Missy
Elliot getting it done solo with “Work It” back in ’02, according to Billboard.
