Background Information: The fun, the fashion, the friendship Sex and the City 2 brings it all back and more as Carrie Sarah Jessica Parker Samantha Kim Cattrall Charlotte Kristin Davis and Miranda Cynthia Nixon take another bite out of The Big Apple New York City and beyond carrying on with their busy lives and loves in a sequel that truly sparkles sex and the city 2, SATC sex and the city two. Sex and the City 2 is an upcoming sequel to the 2008 film Sex and the City, which is based on the HBO TV series of the same name. The film is scheduled for release on May 27, 2010. After months of speculation, the cast confirmed in February 2009 that a sequel was in the works. Filming began in August 2009 for a May 28, 2010 release. The release date of May 27, 2010 had been earlier reported. All four stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, and Kim Cattrall will return in the sequel; Chris Noth has also officially signed on to reprise the role of Mr. Big. It has been confirmed that Evan Handler will be returning as Harry Goldenblatt, John Corbett as Aiden Shaw, David Eigenberg will play Steve Brady once more, Willie Garson will return as Stanford Blatch, and Mario Cantone will again play Anthony Marentino, making the original cast almost complete. In addition Michael Patrick King will be writing and directing again, and Patricia Field will once again take charge of the costumes and wardrobe. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the budget for this film was USD $95 million, exactly $30 million greater than the budget for the first film. Sarah Jessica Parker was paid $15 million for her dual role as a producer and starring as Carrie Bradshaw. Filming Filming in New York had been postponed to the end of July as Dubai authorities have refused clearance for filming in the emirate. As a result, production of this segment of the film will be in Morocco. All four leading ladies and other cast and crew were photographed filming scenes in Morocco in November 2009, where they had originally planned to shoot for 13 days, which had to be extended to almost six weeks. The sequel officially began filming on September 1, 2009 and continued until the end of 2009. Photos of all four leading women filming scenes around New York together and separately have emerged, featuring present-day scenes as well as a range of looks believed to be flashbacks from the earlier years of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte's long-standing friendships. Images of Samantha in a wedding dress have also been released. Additionally, scenes featuring prominent characters such as Mr. Big, Magda, Smith, Steve, and the children of Miranda and Charlotte have been filmed and photographed. Casting It has been speculated that Victoria Beckham will appear in the sequel, after she turned down a cameo for the first film in 2007, because of the Spice Girls Tour, though this has yet to be confirmed. In a March 2010 appearance on Alan Carr: Chatty Man, however, Kim Cattrall shook her head while stating that she could not confirm or deny the speculation, suggesting that although there may have been rumours, Beckham, in fact, will not appear in the film. Oscar-winner Penlope Cruz has been reported to appear briefly as Carmen, a banker. In September 2009, American singer/actress Liza Minnelli confirmed to several media outlets that she will be appearing in a cameo role. Singer/actress Bette Midler has been photographed on set, and was speculated to play the role of Carrie's mother, which she denied, stating she was on the set to support her daughter who was working on the film's production. 17-year-old Miley Cyrus will have one scene where she appears at the premiere of Smith Jerrod's new film, wearing the same dress as Samantha. John Corbett was seen on location in Morocco, confirming his speculated involvement in the film as Aidan. Mariah Carey and supermodel Heidi Klum will also make cameo appearances in the film. More recently confirmed was the involvement of newcomers Nicole Porter and Joseph Randle as Carrie and Samantha's assistants respectively. But her three best girlfriends must console her after one of them inadvertently leads Mr. Big to jilt her. The movie was released ten years after the series first aired and four years after the series ended. Four beautiful female New Yorkers gossip about their sex-lives (or lack thereof) and find new ways to deal with being a woman in the 90's. Sex and the City is a multiple Emmy Award, Golden Globe awardwinning popular American cable television program. The original run of the show was broadcast on HBO from 1998 until 2004, for a total of six seasons. Set in New York City, the show focuses on four mid-thirties (and one who is in her mid-forties by the end) female characters. The sitcom had serialized story lines, as well as dramatic elements and tackled socially-relevant issues, often specifically dealing with women in society in the late 1990s, and how changing roles and definitions for women affected the characters. The show was primarily filmed at New York City's Silvercup Studios and on location in and around Manhattan. Since it ended, the show has been aired in syndication on networks such as TBS, WGN, The CW, and many other local stations. However, basic cable outlets edit out certain explicit show content that was broadcast in the original version. The show was based in part on writer Candace Bushnell's book of the same name, compiled from her column with the New York Observer. Bushnell has stated in several interviews[specify] that the Carrie Bradshaw in her columns is her alter ego; when she wrote the "Sex and the City" essays, she used her own name initially; for privacy reasons, however, she created the character of Carrie Bradshaw, a woman who was also working as a writer and living in New York City. Carrie also has the same initials, which reiterates her connection with Bushnell. Darren Star, the show's creator, paid $50,000 to Bushnell for complete rights to her columns. The show "bears only a passing resemblance to its source material"; the columns were "darker and more cynical" than the "gentler" series that Star produced. According to Sex and the City: Kiss and Tell, by Amy Sohn, Star wanted to create a show that expressed true adult comedy, sex, in an up-front way. The narrative of the show focuses on Carrie and her three best friends. The women discuss their sexual desires and fantasies, and their travails in life and love. The show often depicts frank discussions about romance and sexuality, particularly in the context of being a single woman in her mid-thirties. Each episode in SATC season one features a short montage of interviews of people living in New York City regarding topics discussed in that episode. These continue through season two but were then phased out. Another feature that would eventually be scrapped was Carrie breaking the fourth wall (for example, looking into the camera and speaking to the audience directly, also known in older drama as an aside). Bradshaw would question scenarios and ideas, asking the audience for an opinion or insight on different situations. The pilot, however, also had the characters of Miranda and Charlotte as well as a few minor characters speaking directly to the camera/audience. The last such event by Carrie occurs in episode 3 of the SATC second season, "The Freak Show". The method of expressing inner monologues was shifted exclusively to voiceovers by Carrie in future episodes. Her main narration usually revolves around the premise of that week's "article", where she sums up her thoughts with, "I couldn't help but wonder...". As she says that, her computer monitor is shown while she is typing the text of her voiceover, ending up with the theme of the episode expressed as a question such as, "Are we sluts?" or "Can you really have sex without politics?" Carrie Bradshaw Played By Sarah Jessica Parker. "The only thing I've ever successfully made in the kitchen is a mess. And several small fires." - Carrie No one captures the lives of the lovelorn and the love-seeking in New York City better than columnist Carrie Bradshaw does. As fodder for her column, single and fabulous Carrie looks to the experiences of her best friends and her own. Never shying away from difficult or delicate subjects, Carrie has covered everything from emotional dependence to sexual independence. And somehow, through all her research and realizations, she's remained open to the possibility of finding love among the ruins. Of all her paramours over the past few years, no one has captured and frustrated Carrie's heart as much as Mr. Big. Their sexual chemistry was undeniable, as was the fact that Big would never fully commit to Carrie. And every time Carrie mustered up the strength to say goodbye, there he was, driving up in his chauffeured car and luring her back with his charm. Until he married. Then, along came the anti-Big, Aidan Shaw - good-hearted, good-looking, emotionally honest and ready to commit. Carrie fell for Aidan's authentic charm. Still, the bad girl in her couldn't sever itself from Big and she embarked on a torrid affair with her married ex. When she came to her senses and ended the clandestine tryst, she confessed to Aidan and watched him and his broken heart walk away. Until Season Four, that is, when Carrie and Aidan were reunited - each a little older and wiser. However, at each step forward in the relationship - living together and then getting engaged - Carrie was overcome with doubt. She struggled to quiet her fears, but ultimately realized she wasn't quite ready. When Aidan pushed her, she realized he still did not trust her and the relationship ended with heartbreak and a desperate need for a bank loan. Single again, Carrie turned to getting her life in order. She moved from being a "renter" to an "owner" and put her career on a new track with a job at the mecca of fashion journalism, Vogue. Nothing signaled the "end of an era" more than Big's decision to move to Napa, California. Carrie said goodbye to her past and faced her future with renewed strength and hope. In Season Five, Carrie struggled to define herself - and her weekly column - outside of a relationship. With the publishing of a book of her past columns, her career became front and center. Yet despite of or perhaps because of her professional success, Carrie became increasingly cynical about love. Upon meeting fellow writer Jack Berger, she felt that unmistakable "spark" - but Jack was spoken for. On a book tour to California, Carrie reunited with Big for a night and satisfied her longing for some sexual satisfaction. But realized, that even no-strings-attached sex with Big is never simple. Back in New York, Carrie crossed paths with Jack again and learned he was newly single. After a promising flirtation in the Hamptons, Berger got nervous and backed off. But while dancing at a wedding the two decided to overcome their fears and go out on a date before breaking up. Unforunately, as we learned in Season Six, Berger wasn't Carrie's perfect man. Despite the seemingly ideal pairing of two professional writers, Berger just couldn't cope with Carrie's growing success. Carrie's luck with men stayed consistent (consistently bad) with a horrible fling with a friend of Harry's, followed by a heartbreaking experience with Big. Then, when she least expected it, Ms. Bradshaw met the world-renowned artist Aleksandr Petrovsky, a man that seems to have swept her off her feet with his European charm and natural charisma. Per aps the mysterious Russian will prove to be the man that will finally be able to keep up with Carrie for good.
